Audio Receiver Reviews; The Onkyo TX-8555

Few people recognize the benefit of having a dedicated audio receiver for use in their home, notably in our age of cable cinema channels and plasma tvs. Some companies appreciate that sound still is important, though, and the Onkyo TX-8555 Receiver is evidence for that understanding.

The advanced attributes provided by this unit permit the owner to connect to many different audio sources, then focuses its enormous translation technologies to provide you the best sound conceivable without becoming distracted by a number of video products.

If you favor clear, well-modulated audio while experiencing Blu-ray discs, dish channels or gaming, Onkyo’s TX-8555 Receiver can help you to do that. The proprietary Onkyo audio technology really excells, by the way, any time you are hearing music. With the correct peripherals, this receiver can channel sound from your iPhone, or internet music sources or even a record player. The receiver delivers a nice warm bass resonance and excellent highs without involving an equalizer, and this receiver's Wide Range Amplifier Technology assures suitable audio levels from each and every source.

The Onkyo TX-8555 enjoys the same quality construction which is also enjoyed by its sibling audio component the TX-8255, and all Onkyo products, for that matter. The rugged chassis guards the delicate elements within from vibration along with built-up heat, and the handsomely styled brushed aluminum front panel not only looks stylish, it also works with the bulk of the chassis to shift high temperatures away from the electrical components inside.

The TX-8555 also offers one or two improvements when rated against the 8255 including a more subdued volume increase and Zone 2 capability which enables you to run another audio device in some other room. This unit sadly offers no improvement over the incredibly ill-designed remote control which it additionally shares with the 8255. It’s not obvious why the two most frequently used buttons on this remote are the least easy ones to use, nevertheless it would be nice if the planners at Onkyo may figure out that not all of us are either left-handed or double-jointed.

For about $270, the Onkyo TX-8555 Receiver will deliver a very wide range of connectivity and very good sound quality. If perhaps you favor your sound flooding out from a 7-piece surround sound speaker set, or you prefer video amplification technology that will support a 72-inch television screen, this won't ever be the receiver you're looking for, but this isn’t the correct price level for those receivers, either. If, however, you opt to really fixate on sound quality and you have under $300 to devote toward that goal, you will have a hard time identifying a better use for your cash than this Onkyo receiver.
